CANOLA

PRODUKSIEHANDLEIDING

PRODUCTION GUIDE

vii

The sections on themorphology and physiology

as well as growth and development of the

canola plant, and information on the optimal

use of chemicals to control weeds, insects,

pests and diseases in canola, have all been

updated. More emphasis is placed on the

health benefits that canola offers consumers.

Once again, we would like to convey our

sincere gratitude and appreciation to all

collaborators, especially Prof André Agenbag,

for their tireless efforts and long hours, which

have no doubt contributed to the success of

the growing canola industry.

The PRF set a target for the industry to

produce 75 000 tons and 50 000 ha by 2015.

However, the envisaged tonnage for 2015 was

surpassed in 2012 already, with a total yield

of more than 79 000 tons, and there is little

doubt that the 50 000 ha target for 2015 will

be surpassed in 2013.

The PRF again assures the canola industry of

the Foundation’s full support. We trust that

everyone who consults this exceptional work

of reference will find it very useful, and that

it will contribute to the further establishment

and strengthening of the canola industry in

South Africa.

siektes in canola. Groter klem word ook gelê

op die gesondheidswaardes van canola vir die

verbruiker.
